Naturism is characterized by social nudity, which aims to promote self-respect, respect for others and respect for nature and environment.

Until about 1980, used the following definition: Naturism is a humanitarian movement that strives for the reintegration of nature and naturalness in human life, while the naked body looks like a natural.

Both definitions show a sense of connectedness with nature and naturalness, naturism is seen as more than just nude recreation. Not only the urban area grew less and less natural, the manners - for example the attitude towards the naked body - had become increasingly unnatural.
